In Canada, a comprehensive 61% of consumers are reportedly using plant-based products, indicating a strong adoption rate surpassing the initial estimates. This substantial increase showcases the evolving consumer landscape, where both health and environmental consciousness are driving demand for plant-based alternatives. Additionally, a notable 42% of Canadians have indicated that they sometimes prepare plant-based meals, highlighting a trend towards integrating these options into daily diets rather than exclusively consuming them.
Internationally, a robust trend is also notable. Globally, vegetarianism and veganism are increasing in popularity, with millennials particularly expressing a strong interest in plant-based foods. A study highlighted that 72% of millennials are eager to explore plant-based options, with a significant portion willing to change their eating habits to include more vegan products. Moreover, by 2040, young consumers are expected to represent 69% of global spending on plant-based meat and milk products. This parallel trend shows a strong alignment between Canadian consumers and global appetites for vegetarian options.
