The increasing importation of Mexican avocados supports not just the U.S. market but also significantly contributes to the Mexican economy. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, Mexican avocado imports to the U.S. amounted to 2.48 billion pounds, generating approximately $7.5 billion in economic output and supporting over 42,000 jobs in the U.S. alone. California and Texas, as the largest avocado-consuming states, accounted for around 20% of this economic output, reflecting the substantial impact of avocado consumption on regional economies.
Moreover, entrepreneurs should be aware of the diverse consumer segments within the avocado market, such as millennials, who have shown a strong affinity for avocados as part of a healthier lifestyle, further driving demand. Given the popularity of avocados as a superfood, there is also a rising trend in plant-based diets, which presents opportunities for startups and businesses focused on innovative avocado-based products, including snacks and health supplements.
Additionally, considering the critical issues of sustainability, companies that focus on environmentally friendly practices and reduce their carbon footprint will likely resonate well with increasingly eco-conscious consumers, which could enhance brand loyalty and market share in the long run.
