Eight major directions for future education development

  1. Personalized or tailored education will be popularized due to the universal benefits of AI. Personalized education, like other personalized products and services such as personalized medicine and personalized shopping, will develop rapidly due to the ubiquity of AI and the continuous improvement of AI capabilities.
  2. In the great transformation from the industrial age to the AI ​​age, the three-stage life theory formed in the industrial age and that we have long been accustomed to – education, work, and retirement – will be completely overturned.
  3. Like the experience economy, experiential learning will also be a very important part of future learning. Through VR/AR, children can acquire knowledge in an immersive way.
  4. In the future, university learning may be a non-linear, highly virtualized experience, which will give more people the opportunity to study courses at prestigious universities.
  5. By 2049, more and more universities will grant degrees to students who have never set foot on campus, through remote learning, and with the assistance of AI. The halo of prestigious schools and the value of alumni networks may also diminish over time.
  6. In the next 25 years, a new type of university may emerge – a result-oriented university. This type of university will continue to shape them according to the needs of the job positions, and can achieve a high degree of matching between graduates and employers, and can ensure that students can find a good job after graduation.
  7. In the future, everyone’s core skill is to know how to learn most efficiently and find the most efficient learning methods for different subjects, because lifelong learning will become the norm in the next 25 years. A person needs to constantly learn new things throughout his life, and the learning method is more important than what knowledge has been learned.
  8.   9.   10. To cultivate an innovative culture in education in the next 25 years, three points need to be achieved: be more tolerant of failure, question authority more, and encourage diverse views.
  11. In the future, self-motivation is particularly important. At present, basic education in both China and the United States is becoming more and more full. “Tiger parents” plan their children’s time clearly, but this education model lacks the children’s own thinking – what exactly do they want to do, what are they interested in and passionate about.
  12. AI will have a great impact on this arranged education, because it will make it particularly easy to quickly learn a skill, and AI assistants can even provide all kinds of required skills at any time. However, what AI cannot replace is people’s self-motivation and sense of direction when exploring the unknown world.
