Botguard OĆ, an Estonian cybersecurity company based in Tallinn, has made substantial progress through its recent venture capital investments. The company, known primarily for its GateKeeper solution designed for web hosting providers, has undergone significant funding rounds while also rebranding itself as “Blackwall.”
Series A Funding
In March 2024, Botguard OĆ successfully closed a ā¬12 million Series A funding round. This was led by MMC Ventures, with the involvement of other investors such as Tera Ventures, Expeditions Fund, alongside notable angel investors like Stefan Lindeberg.
The funding is intended to enhance the company’s capabilities in defending against malicious bots and cyber threats. The capital will also be directed towards technology development, recruiting tech talent, and expanding global sales and marketing teams.
Series B Funding and Rebranding to Blackwall
A year later, in March 2025, the company secured an even larger Series B funding round, raising ā¬45 million. Dawn Capital led this round, highlighting strong investor confidence in the companyās AI-powered security solutions. During this phase, BotGuard rebranded to Blackwall, a move that aligns with its broader strategic objectives for growth and scalability in the cybersecurity landscape.
This rebranding is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and revenue streams through scalable, high-value security services catered to service and hosting providers.
Technological Solutions
Blackwallās flagship product, GateKeeper, is a comprehensive security tool boasting next-generation bot and attack detection mechanisms. It acts as an advanced reverse proxy, crucial for safeguarding cloud-based assets and data centers from malicious activities such as L7 DDoS attacks, brute-force attempts, and bot-driven traffic overloads.
It is utilized across diverse cloud platforms, including AWS, Digital Ocean, and Vultr, offering a well-rounded solution for multiple website and application threats.
Global Expansion and Board Changes
With the new capital, Blackwall plans to double its workforce, accelerate its growth in the U.S. and APAC regions, and strengthen global channel partnerships.
Moreover, the company has increased its deployment to over 2.3 million websites and applications globally.
Following the Series B funding, significant changes to the board were also announced, including welcoming Norman Fiore from Dawn Capital and Roi Carthy as Executive Chairman.
These moves signify the companyās strategy to solidify its market position and broaden its global reach.
