In Canada’s harsh winter conditions, electric vehicles (EVs) experience a significant decline in driving range, with studies showing reductions of nearly 40%. This decrease is primarily due to the impact of sub-zero temperatures on battery performance and chemistry.
According to a study by the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), cold weather testing on 14 top-selling EV models demonstrated notable range losses, while some vehicles performed better than anticipated.
Advances in battery technology continue to address these concerns, but winter conditions remain a critical factor in EV range optimization.
